Jeanne Max (Guadeloupe)
A common thread in Max Jeanne’s diverse body of work is the constant questioning of West-Indian history. His poems and novels reveal a deep fascination with the sea, and his travels have taken him to different parts of the Caribbean. As a university student, he discovered and experimented with theatre. Since 1971, he has taught literature in Guadeloupe at the Lycée Général et Technologique de Baimbridge (Abymes). He is keenly interested in promoting an awareness of Antillen poetry through public readings in the educational milieu, in media libraries, but also in theatre workshops with Haitian singer Chantal Laurent. His published work includes Western, a Guadeloupan ciné-poem, which appeared in 1978, followed by Boutou in 2001.
