Trois Rivières is the second oldest city in Canada. The capital of St. Maurice County, it is located at the confluence of the St. Maurice and St. Lawrence rivers, on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, midway between Quebec City and Montreal. The city is named for the three channels through which the St. Maurice River enters the St. Lawrence.

The population of Quebec is 7,509,928 inhabitants. Bordering the province to the north is the Arctic Ocean; to the south, the United States and the province of New Brunswick. East of Quebec are the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of the St.Lawrence. James Bay, Hudson Bay, and the province of Ontario lie to the west of the province.

Trois Rivières is five hours by car from Boston and one hour by plane from New York City.

The World Capital of Poetry is 130 kilometres from Montreal and 120 kilometres from Quebec City.
