Literary genre : Poetry
Origin of prize :
This award was established jointly by the Seminario de Cultura Mexicana and the Trois Rivières International Poetry Festival in order to consolidate the mutually-enriching literary partnership between them. The prize is presented annually to a living poet in one or the other of the two countries.
Prize:
The prize, valued at $ 50 000 pesos, is awarded to the winner by the Seminario de Cultura Mexicana and the International Poetry Festival, which jointly sponsor it.
In the year following the awarding of the prize, the Fondo de Cultura Economica and Écrits des Forges share the cost (50-50) of publishing a CD or DVD of excerpts from the book which took the prize. To facilitate the broadcast of this CD or DVD by radio stations and for copyright purposes, the winner will read three to four-minute sequences of his / her poems in the original language for half the CD. These readings will be followed by original music of equal length by a musician or musicians from the author’s country. The second half of the CD will involve a translation of the work in the other language. An actor will read the same passages in translation. The poems will be followed by musical pieces created and performed by musicians from the actor’s country of origin.
A written agreement between the Fondo de Cultura Economica, Écrits des Forges, the Seminario de Cultura Mexicana and the International Poetry Festival will determine the input of the parties in the creation of the CD or DVD, and the visual layout of this information on the cover.
