Origin of prize :

In October 1996, the Félix-Antoine-Savard Prize was established jointly by the Félix-Antoine-Savard Centre and the Papeterie Saint-Gilles de St-Joseph-de-la-Rive on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the poet (1896-1996). The prize, awarded each year at the official opening ceremony of the International Poetry Festival, is intended to honour and respect the memory, spirit, and literary contribution of the late poet.

Prize :

  • A special boxed-set containing 100 sheets of Saint-Gilles paper and $250 is awarded on the Sunday before Thanksgiving
  • A certificate of merit
  • An invitation to take part in the International Poetry Festival (valued at over $400)


Rules :

  1. be a Canadian citizen.
  2. have published at least one poetry book with a professional publishing house.
  3. have published, between June 1, 2006 and May 31, 2007, a long poem or a series of poems not exceeding 200 lines in a magazine which publishes French- language poetry.
  4. the author or publisher of the magazine should submit four copies of the said magazine, which will not be returned.
  5. ensure that the magazines be sent on or before May 31, 2007, the postmark being regarded as proof of the date on which the material was sent.
  6. include a short biography with the application.


Jury :

The jury, composed of three people appointed by organizers of the International Poetry Festival, will select the winner and a shortlist of one or two other nominees, if the need arises. All decisions are final.
