Origin of prize :

This prize, established in 1991 and awarded every June at the Marché de la Poésie at Place St-Sulpice (Paris), honours a living poet’s body of work. An international prize, it is presented at the Aux Trois Canettes Restaurant during a special breakfast on the third day (a Saturday) of the Marché de la Poésie in Paris.

Prize :
An invitation to take part in the Trois Rivières International Poetry Festival in Quebec. Airfare and living expenses are included as part of the prize.

Rules:

The applicant must:

  • ensure that his / her name be submitted by a professional publishing house.
  • be a citizen of the Europe in June 2007.
  • ensure that his / her application (including all pertinent documents) be mailed no later than May 15 of the current year, the postmark being regarded as proof of the date on which the material was sent.
  • The following documents should be included with the application:
    • one (1) copy of the author’s most recent work (either written in French OR translated into French)
    • a recent photo ;
    • a one-page statement of support from the publisher indicating why he / she wishes to nominate the author;
    • a brief, one-page biography of the author;
    • A publisher may only nominate one author for this award.

Jury:

Each year, the Antonio Viccaro International Prize accepts nominations from one of five continents only. For the next five years, nominations will be heard from Oceania (2008), Africa (2009), America (2010), Asia (2011), and Europe (2012).

The winner will be chosen by the process of elimination and on the basis of successive rounds of voting. Those invited publishers present will constitute a quorum. No one is authorized to vote in the place of the person whose name appears on the invitation.

The applicant who receives the greatest number of votes on the last round of voting will be declared the winner of that year’s Antonio Viccaro International Prize.
